Omah Lay began making music at a young age, following in the footsteps of his grandpa, who was a drummer for famed Highlife vocalist Celestine Ukwu.

His father was also a drummer, and although he never achieved greater heights, he was a recognized hero in his community when it came to drumming.

According to the singer, he began music at the age of 15, worked as a producer for a period, and then returned to singing.

Omah Lay’s musical style has been described as a mashup of Burna Boy and Wizkid in one voice. His style may be described as Afro-Fusion.

Hello Brother and Do Not Disturb, both of which were released in 2019, kicked out his musical career, but “You” and “Bad Influence,” both of which were included on his first EP Get Layd, captured everyone’s attention.

Following the positive reaction to both singles, Omah Lay released the Get Layd EP on May 22. The EP included more tracks such as Damn, LoLo, and Ye Ye Ye.
